Mark Maya is the digital media arts instructor at Durham School of the Arts. He has been married to his beautiful wife, Kathryn, for over 11 years . They have two kids, Harvest and Honor. Mark served in the United States Marine Corps from 2002-2006 before moving to Boone, NC to study at Appalachian State University. During his studies Mark received his M.A. in Educational Media Production as well as a B.S. in  Special Education.  Besides teaching digital media, Mark is also an Adjunct Instructor at Appalachian State University and has taught special education, language arts and social studies at the middle school and high school levels.   Apart from teaching, he is a photographer and creative professional.
